RSPCA Million Paws WalkAs lovers of all things 4-legged and furry, it was only natural that support the RSPCA for their nationwide Million Paws Walk.

On Sunday 28 May 2023, we had a stall set-up at the up the Sydney Olympic Park location to support RSPCA’s work as well as raising awareness of our services.

The stage was set for a fur-bulous day out, with the Sydney weather turned on for all who came.

With the pup-arazzi on hand to take photos, snacks at the ready, and the sun shining, it was a paw-fect day to walk to raise awareness for RSPCA and the amazing work they do for animals in need.

And, we were able to raise $1,901 to help RSPCA fight against animal cruelty. That equates to 52 dogs who can now access a warm bed, love and care for one day in an RSPCA shelter.

We loved every second of the sniffs, licks and cuddles with all the furry friends we met 🐕

Check out some happy snaps from the day:

What is the RSPCA Million Paws Walk?

Last year, 20,000 dogs turned to the RSPCA for help. Many were victims of cruelty, bred to turn a profit, or abandoned by the humans they loved unconditionally. Even one dog is too many. Each step taken at the Million Paws Walk helps in their fight to bring that number down.

Fundraising to fight animal cruelty

The RSPCA Million Paws Walk:

  • Helps fund crucial community outreach programs about the importance of responsible pet ownership.
  • Helps put an end to the ugly roots of animal cruelty at the source.
  • Helps to grow and maintain RSPCA’s shelters and care for more and more pups in need.

How the donations help fight animal crueltyWe’re thrilled to have been able to raise $1,901 to help the RSPCA fight animal cruelty 🐾

Here’s a recap of how the donations from RSCPA Million Paws Walk help rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs in need.

Can’t get out to walk your fur friend as much as you’d like to?

Its inaugural ‘coming out’ dates back to the year 2000 in Rome and is a licensed global event run by InterPride, a network of over 400 LGBTQIA+ member organisations from over 70 countries.

What makes this WorldPride so special is that it’s the first time a city in the southern hemisphere has been chosen!

Spanning 2 weeks, from Friday 17 February to Sunday 5 March 2023 – traditionally the dates of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras – all are welcome to take part in a host of events across arts, sports, theatre, concerts, parties, First Nations programmes and Human Rights conferences.

It’s that time of year again. The results are in – we reveal Australia’s Top Pet Names from the last year. Has your fur baby’s name made the list?

This year’s results stem from a database of over 500,000 Australian pets. Did Aussies stray away from the traditional four-legged-friend names, or are we breaking new ground with any unique names that we grace our human offspring with?

We also unveil Australia’s most popular dog breeds, which are as diverse as they are adorable.

Read on to get the latest on the most popular names & breeds for your furry friend.

Top Dog Names

Although many classic canine names remain within the top 10 list each year, there has been some significant movement as well as a few newcomers joining the ranks this time. But which male pet name has reigned supreme? We’re happy to see one from the history books (and movies) has jumped from #4 last year to now taking out position #1.

#1 Milo

#2 Teddy

#3 Archie

#4 Charlie

#5 Buddy

#6 Murphy

#7 Ollie

#8 Alfie

#9 Leo

#10 Ziggy

Now for the girls. For six consecutive years in a row, the name Bella claimed the title of Australia’s most popular dog name (with the exception of Victoria, where Charlie proved to be the #1 top dog name. Alas, in this new year, Bella has been knocked from ‘top dog’ status.

#5 Coco

#6 Molly

Compared to previous years, the popularity of pop culture-inspired names saw a decline. Aside from a couple of notable names, it’s clear that some of the oldies are still goodies.

Thanks to the recent remake of Disney classic, The Lion King, the name Nala sits pretty as #7 – and we’re sure it will remain popular in Australia for some time.

Pets are part of the family, after all.

We’re a nation of dog lovers in Australia – that statement goes uncontested. And with more and more Millennials opting for animals over children, dogs are increasingly evolving into companions for their Owners. How many pets in prams and hand-bag hounds do you see on the streets, nowadays?!

Top Dog Breeds

We’ll give you a hint – there are oodles and oodles of one particular cross breed that seem to be dominating this years list.

While the ever-loving Labrador Retriever still remains a big part of the Australian family home, it’s not surprising that the popularity of the Cavoodle has surged to top spot. Notably, the Greyhound has clawed its way not only into the top 10 but into third position! Does anyone else think this is a result of Kylie Jenner’s influence? Hmmmm.

Missing from this year’s top 10 are the Jack Russell Terrier, Australian Kelpie and American Staffy. This follows the country’s “micro dog wave”, which was a response to more compact living conditions for the average Australian.

Folks, Fathers Day is upon us. For “conventional” fathers, that will often mean Bunnings gift vouchers, low-brow Fathers Day cards, and gag gifts. For Pet Owners, though, it’s a time to celebrate the joy our furry friends have brought into our lives.

As a personal aside, today also marks my final day at Mad Paws. In the 3+ years I’ve worked here, I’ve had the honour of becoming a pet parent to a feisty West Highland White Terrier.  As this is my first Fathers Day as a Dog Dad, and my last day at Australia’s leading pet care platform, I wanted to seize this chance to reflect on all the ways my willful Westie Schnoozy has changed my life. Yes, I’ll admit, this is pretty indulgent – but I PROMISE you’ll relate to some of these.

Fathers Day Dog Parents

Fathers Day reflections: how Owning a dog changes your life

You’ll never watch movies or TV shows the same way again

Prior to pet parenthood, the presence of dogs in films or TV shows would be a pleasant bonus. I’d see a Labrador in a series, or German Shepherd in a film, and I’d think: “Hey, they’re gorgeous!” After I brought Schnoozy home, EVERYTHING changed. Suddenly, dogs became lenses through which I would judge other characters. If a TV pooch looks forlorn, I’ll condemn their fictional Owners for not giving them enough dog treats. If someone fails to greet their dog after returning home, I’ll start yelling at the screen: “What is WRONG with you, MONSTER?!” And don’t get me started on Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. That direwolf stood by his side for nearly eight seasons and Jon didn’t even give him a farewell pat! One star.

Your concept of time changes completely

Before my spouse and I welcomed Schnoozy into our lives, I measured time in a pretty conventional way. 8am on a weekday was Go Time. 10am on Saturday was the Brunching Hour. 8.30pm on any night was Netflix O’Clock. Then our Westie scampered into our schedules, and time as we knew it ceased to exist. 8am suddenly became “30 minutes until she does her business”. 2pm transformed into “T minus two hours until she wakes up and demands a walk”. If we slept the night through, it would only be because she allowed it.

This toothy, teddy bear-sized creature became the arbiter of our body clocks.

Your perception of risk becomes much more conservative

Pre-Schnoozy, I was happy to live on the wild side. Sure, I’m no daredevil, but I’ve done my share of risk-taking. The moment Schnoozy batted her eyes at us, that all changed. Now, when I cross the road, I think: “Who will care for my pupper if I’m hit by a car?” When choosing dinner options, I select the healthy choice. “I’m a pet parent,” I affirm to myself. “I need to remain healthy and productive to give my dog the quality of life she deserves.”

When you have a small creature who loves you, the wild side becomes a thing of the past.

You start buying items for their “dog-proof” qualities

Everything – and I mean everything – is now measured by its durability to dog teeth and claws. Looking at buying a new lounge? We’d better be sure it can withstand an assault from our furbaby. Eying off a new pair of shoes? Unless they have chew-resistant laces, I might as well write them off in advance. “Dog-proof” is now the metric by which we assess our things.

You unearth more love in your heart than you ever thought was possible

I love my spouse. I love my family. I love my friends, and I love gritty films about middle-aged badasses. Until Schnoozy, I never knew how much I could love another non-human creature. As saccharine as it sounds, my heart has grown bigger since I became a pet parent. And while I used to roll my eyes at the term “furbaby”, I now say it proudly.

This Fathers Day, I couldn’t be more grateful to have a furbaby in my life. And to all the other pet parents out there, let’s take this moment to remember how lucky we are.

Folks, the results are in. After years of caring for all kinds of pooches, Mad Paws Pet Sitting, Dinner Bowl, and Waggly Club Dog Treats have revealed Australia’s 100 Top Dog Names.

The list stems from a database of over 500,000 Australian pets, and is Australia’s largest ever pet index. From thirst-piquing drinks to names you’d find in your Facebook friends list, this list draws inspiration from some surprising places. We also unveil Australia’s most popular dog breeds, which are as diverse as they are adorable.

Want to see if your dog’s name or breed rated a mention? Read on!

Top Dog Names

Australia’s largest pet care community has released their index of the nation’s 100 most popular dog names. Spoiler alert: there isn’t a Rover, Fido, or Snoopy in sight…

#2 Luna

#3 Coco

#4 Ruby

#5 Molly

#6 Frankie

#7 Daisy

#8 Rosie

#9 Lucy

#10 Lola

For the sixth year in a row, the name Bella claimed the title of Australia’s most popular dog name. Indeed, with the exception of Victoria (in which Charlie proved to be the #1 top dog name), Bella earned the top ranking in every state and territory. All hail Bella. Long may she reign.

Clink clink, let’s drink

In a thirst-quenching turn of events, Australian Dog Owners have revealed a love of drink-inspired dog names. In fact, one quarter of the Top 20 dog names were inspired by drinks. Interestingly, this pattern doesn’t continue among the lower ranked names. This suggests that, as far as dogs and drinks are concerned, Australian Dog Owners have an “all or nothing” policy. Condiments also made a cameo, with “Pepper” and “Chilli” taking the 29tt and 108th spots, respectively.

Pop Culture Takes a Slump

Compared to earlier top dog names lists, the popularity of pop culture-inspired names saw a decline. Aside from Luna (Harry Potter), pop culture references were conspicuously absent amidst the Top 20 Dog Names.

However, pop culture does still hold some sway over naming choices in the Top 100. Interesting, the name Loki (AKA the Norse God of Mischief) jumped 42 places from previous years, earning a #48 ranking. Perhaps Norse myths are enjoying a resurgence, but we’re quietly confident the MCU is to thank for this upswing.

(NB: we’re glad to see Nala and Simba rank in the Top 100. Thanks to the live-action remake of The Lion King, they’ll surely remain popular in Australia for some time.)

Human After All

When it comes to surging trends among dog monikers, Australia has seen a tidal wave of human names. It’s a pattern that walks hand-in-hand with the growing role dogs play in the lives of their Owners.

With more and more Millennials opting for animals over children, dogs are increasingly evolving into companions for their Owners. As such, Pet Owners are now humanising their dogs more than ever.

By the same token, classic dog names are far less prevalent than you might expect. The usual suspects, such as “Rover” and “Fido”, didn’t earn a single ranking in the 100 Top Dog Names.

Top Dog Breeds

While Poodle-crosses seem to be everywhere, it was the ever-loving Labrador Retriever that took the top dog breeds spot. Moreover, while the Cavoodle took the #2 spot, it was more outdoorsy dog breeds that enjoyed a surge in popularity. This follows the country’s “micro dog wave”, which was a response to more compact living conditions for the average Australian.

The prevalence of more outdoor-oriented breeds could suggest a move towards a more active lifestyle for the average Dog Owner. To protect your pupper in the event of an outdoor emergency, sign them up for a comprehensive pet insurance plan.

Every year for the last 145 years, the Westminster Dog Show has wowed crowds of dog lovers around the world. Not only do we tune in to catch the over-the-top hair cuts and graceful gaits, but also so that we can turn to our own puppers and say: “You’re definitely cuter than all of those dogs.”

While the fur may be swept off the floor, and the poo scooped from the arena, we’re not done talking about the Westminster Dog Show. When did this glorious event begin? What does it take for dogs to qualify? And, can you and your friendly Dog Walker get your pup in shape to compete in a dog show like this one?

We’ve got all the doggy details for a full post-show rundown!

Westminster Dog Show

A quick history of the Westminster Dog Show

Through natural disasters, economic downturns, pandemics, and even world wars, the Westminster Dog Show has never been cancelled. In fact, it’s the second-oldest continuously run sporting event in the United States. Only the Kentucky Derby is older!

The tradition of Westminster was imagined by a group of hunters—or in the old vernacular, sporting gentlemen—who would regularly meet to share hunting stories at the bar in the Westminster Hotel in Manhattan. As is usually the case with Dog Owners, each gentleman thought his dog was surely the best. And we can imagine that at some point, one of them suggested: “Well, let’s settle this once and for all with a little competition.” Or something along those lines.

Out of these nights of drinking and storytelling, the Westminster Kennel Club was founded. And soon after, in May of 1877, the first Westminster Dog Show was held. It took place at the modern-day Madison Square Garden, where it has been held every year until 2021 (more on that in a moment!) And, while the first Westminster attracted an astounding number of dogs—about 1,200—there was a noticeable lack of breed diversity. After all, the show was organised by a group of hunters who wanted to see hunting dogs. So, the competitors were mostly Pointers, Retrievers, and the like. Definitely no silky Pekingese trotting around the ring.

Before long, the show attracted worldwide attention and dropped the hunting dog parameters. Foreign leaders, such as Queen Victoria of England, and American elites, like Wall Street top dog J.P. Morgan, began entering their dogs in the competition.

Every year, the show got bigger, the competition fiercer, and the dogs fancier. Today, the AKC-organised show offers multiple events within the two day program, with agility competitions, obedience tests, and of course, the flashy conformation trials.

In 2021, Westminster moved to Tarrytown, New York, just north of NYC. The dogs and their handlers congregated at the Lyndhurst Mansion, a stunning 19th century country estate with a 67-acre open park on its grounds. The doggos were probably pretty happy with the change, and the open setting allowed for compliance with Covid-19 safety measures.

For the next show in January 2022, the doggos will return to the Big Apple.

How do dogs get into the Westminster Dog Show?

Much like the Met Gala or a British Royal Wedding, getting into the Westminster Dog Show is by invitation, only.

And how does a handsome pup get their paws on one of the only 3,200 invitations? By making a name for themselves at qualifying trials. These regional dog shows award merit points for dogs who conform, or align, best with their breed standard. With enough points, a pupper can wait for the mail carrier daily for the arrival of their much anticipated invitation.

But, let’s back up for a moment, because a dog must also qualify for the qualifying trials! In order to meet the requirements for these regional dog shows, the doggos must be:

  • registered with the American Kennel Club,
  • at least six months old on the show day,
  • part of a recognised AKC breed (mixed breeds can participate in the agility competition!),
  • intact, as in not desexed
  • in conformity with the breed standard, and
  • healthy and vaccinated!

No matter where you are in the world, you’ll likely find some of these local dog shows in your area. There are also conformation classes and practice dog shows for Dog Owners looking to break into competitive circles.

Westminster Dog Show

What’s it like to be a competitor?

Wondering what a day in the life of a Westminster Dog Show dog is like? Here’s a snapshot:

  • Lots of training. The pro puppers make dog shows look like a breeze, but there’s a TONNE of work behind it. Dogs must learn to walk a certain way; stand steadily whilst being poked and prodded by the judges; stay calm in the presence of other dogs; and in the case of agility competitions, perform their hearts out. All of this in an unfamiliar place, in front of an excited crowd and flashing cameras. As you can guess, that level of graceful performance takes a lot of training and socialisation, which continues throughout their life of competition.
  • Frequent grooming sessions. Perhaps you caught our recent article, How Often Should I Wash My Dog? Well, when it comes to show dogs, those basic recommendations do not apply! Each breed follows a fairly strict grooming regimen that will keep their coat looking absolutely stunning in the ring. That usually means a full professional grooming session before each competition, plus last minute fluff-ups before setting paw in front of the judges.
  • Travel, travel, travel. The more serious show dogs may travel multiple times per month to attend competitions around the country and even abroad. That means a whole lot of time on the road or in the air!
  • Quite a bit of waiting around. From layovers, to pre- and post-show time in hotels, to downtime between events at the show, these professional pups have quite a bit of time to wait. Some choose to snooze in their crate, others work on their training or their looks, and many look to their beloved Owners for entertainment.
  • High quality meals. In the ring, handlers have all kinds of treats, from raw offal to deli meat to fried crisps, to keep their dog’s attention. But when they’re not in the spotlight, you can bet these doggos are eating high-quality meals packed with Omega-3s to keep their coat shiny.
  • Exercise. Just as important as a nutritious meal plan is regular exercise for these pretty pups. Show dogs need to stay in shape and burn off excess energy so that they’re not too excited in the ring. As demanding as owning a show dog can be, Owners tend to have a team of Dog Walkers to help out.
  • Face to face time with fans. Westminster is a bit like Comic Con, in that fans can mingle with their favourite canine celebrities between events. And, the doggos who really make waves at Westminster typically spend the days following the big show making appearances on news programs and social events. The Best In Show winner has historically been treated to a steak meal at the iconic Sardi’s restaurant in New York for one tasty photo-op.
  • Plenty of regular dog stuff! Out of the spotlight, show dogs are just dogs! They cuddle up with their humans, get in trouble for sticking their snout in the rubbish bin, and chase pigeons. Even Broadway stars need some relaxation between shows!

Does your dog have what it takes?

The world of Westminster is unique, prestigious, and sometimes intense. Not every doggo can compete at this elite level. And to be honest, many would rather live a more normal life with less grooming and more daily walkies with a local Dog Walker.

Whether you’ve got a show dog of your own or a cuddle companion to watch the Westminster Dog Show at your side, we think all the puppers deserve the title of Best in Show!

Dog lovers, the results are in. Earlier this year, we launched a competition to find Australia’s Furriest Foodie. Our criteria was simple, but timeless: we needed a dog whose face expressed the red-hot longing for dinner that we all feel in the moments before mealtime. Yes, we only accepted doggy entrants. However, in a way – a deep, profound way – the winner was going to represent ALL of us. The triumphant pup would claim two prizes: a year’s supply of free Dinner Bowl raw dog food, and the official mantle of “Dinner Bowl Dog”.

In our quest, we trawled from Sydney to Perth, from Hobart to Cairns. And, yes, of course, we expected to find some cute doggos along the way. What we didn’t expect, though, was the sheer depth, breadth, and richness of the entrants. For over a month, we received photo after adorable photo of amazing pre-dinner dogs. If there was any justice in this world, they would all be winners.

However, much like the Highlander, there can be only one. That’s why we’re honoured to announce that the title of Australia’s Furriest Foodie goes to one Chip the Cavoodle

Furriest Foodie

All hail Australia’s Furriest Foodie. Long may he reign.

A white-bearded furbaby from Sydney, Chip’s photo shares a story. Look deeply, and you’ll see a sonnet in those eyes – a sonnet that tells of yearning and pride. Yearning that his Owner will soon issue the “Eat” command; pride that his desire waits for no master. For these reasons, and so many more, Chip is worthy of his new moniker as the Dinner Bowl Dog. Enjoy your year’s supply of raw dog food, noble Chip. You’ve earned it with your eyes.

Of course,  as we mentioned, Chip was in good company. Here are our five finalists from around Australia!

As you may have noticed from the deluge of targeted ads, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. For a lot of people, that means fancy dinners, boxes of chocolates, jewellery, and all the rest. If you have plans with your human loved one, we suggest booking a local Pet Sitter for your pooch. However, if you love your dog more than any other, we’re here to offer an alternative. Instead of making room for romance this 14th February, why not celebrate Valentine’s Day with your dog?

Valentine's Day with Your Dog

Want to spend Valentine’s Day with your dog? You’re not alone!

Your beloved pooch deserves to be pampered and appreciated this Valentine’s Day. In fact, we might even say that you’ll enjoy these 8 activities with your dog more than any romantic date where you have to wear uncomfortable clothes and try to find parking and order the most expensive wine that tastes just like the affordable one you have in the fridge.

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to forgo the traditional Valentine’s Day and spend time with your loveable pup instead, here are a few exciting ideas.

Idea 1: Find a new dog-friendly beach or park

Sure, your dog is probably over the moon every time you bring them to their favourite neighbourhood dog park or dog beach. But why not take a little trip to a dog-friendly hot spot in another part of the city or neighbouring town? If having a change of scenery is fun and exciting for us humans, imagine how all the new smells and doggy friends will fill your pup with joy. Here are some dog-friendly beaches we’ve put together to help plan this date idea.

Idea 2: Arrange for a puppy playdate

While your dog no doubt loves their one-on-one time with you, they’ll love you even more if you invite their best doggy friends to join the fun. Arrange for an adorable dog-centred Valentine’s Day party, complete with fun games for the two-legged and four-legged guests. Or take them on an outdoor adventure to run them ragged.

And don’t forget the puppy party favours! Heart-shaped dog treats would go down well here.

Idea 3: Bake something delicious

If we’re talking about heart-shaped dog treats, you know your pup will love to be your Valentine’s Day sous-chef. Whip up some delicious summer dog treats or make their normal dinner extra special for this day of love.

If there’s enough space in your kitchen, you might set up their doggy bed in a safe area. That way, you can throw them a few dog-friendly morsels while you’re cooking.

Idea 4: Teach your dog how to paddle board

Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) is a fun, relaxing experience that is only more enjoyable when your dog can join you. If you think your pup is up for the challenge, fit them with a doggy life vest and give it a go! Of course, it will probably take a few tries for your dog to find their footing. Once they’re comfortable on the board, though, you’ll be ready for hours of Valentine’s Day fun. Before you get started though, just make sure you know the best way to introduce your dog to stand-up paddle boarding.

Idea 5: Indoor obstacle course

Just like you might set up a romantic scavenger hunt for a two-legged Valentine’s Day date, you’ll have even more fun creating an indoor obstacle course for your doggo. What’s great about agility and obstacle courses is that it provides a perfect balance of mental and physical stimulation for your pet.

You might use their scent-tracking skills to explore the house looking for treats. Or, set up cones and agility tunnels for hours of fun.

Idea 6: Watch some dog-friendly movies together

There’s nothing more relaxing than buying your favourite movie snacks, donning your comfiest pyjamas, and starting a movie marathon. We’ve got a list of the best dog-friendly movies to watch with your pooch if you’re wondering what films are best for your Valentine’s Day plans.

Pro tip: take your dog for a long walk, or call in their trusted Dog Walker, before your movie marathon for maximum cuddles.

Option 7: Find a dog-friendly hotel for a weekend trip

A weekend getaway is the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day. So, pack their dog food, their dog bed (don’t forget their dog car seat bed too), and hit the road! Find a dog-friendly hotel and put together a list of dog-friendly activities to do on your Valentine’s Day destination.

pet friendly hotels and road trips

Option 8: Don’t forget the dog toys!

Valentine’s Day is all about giving extravagant gifts like jewellery and sweets. The equivalent for your dog? New toys! Take them to their favourite store or surprise them with a dog toy that they can unwrap themselves. And while you’re at it, why not stop into your own favourite store and buy yourself something special, too? After all, you both deserve to be pampered!

What will you do for Valentine’s Day with your dog?

If you have special plans with your pooch this 14th February, let us know! We love to hear about how Dog Owners are planning to celebrate the day of love with their loveable doggos.

In case you didn’t know, Take Your Dog to Work Day is a pretty big deal for us. Last year, we set a high bar for ourselves by hosting 13 pooches in our office. So when Take Your Dog to Work Day 2019 rolled around on 21 June, what do you think we did? That’s right…we hosted 14 dogs. As our office doubles as a Doggy Daycare space, we were able to recruit some of our daycare regulars. Our entire office building, WOTSO, also functions as a dog-friendly workspace, so some of our neighbours like Spacer also brought their furry friends for a playdate. To top it off, Pawssum, Mad Paws’ vet partner, visited with four of their rescue dogs!

Beyond that, we also took several on a lunchtime walk to visit our friends at Nine Honey around the corner. While we can’t say we completed much work, we can attest that we reduced stress for canines and co-workers alike.

In the past, we’ve written at length about the benefits of dogs in the workplace. However, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. With that in mind, here is our Take Your Dog to Work Day 2019 in pictures. Without a doubt, it was our furriest, zaniest, and barkingest day yet!

Take Your Dog to Work Day Pet Sitting

“Take Your Dog to Work Day” was less about “work” and more about “dog”

To the surprise of no-one, the dogs swarmed over Mad Paws staff and friends within moments of arriving. Hoping to get some work done today? Forget it – the space belongs to the dogs now. Our clothes are now covered with hair and slobber, but we don’t care: it was all kinds of perfect.

Dogs at Work

The dogs came to control the computers…

After 10 minutes, we needed to concede that we couldn’t use our PCs without the consent of the dogs. In fact, all desks fell under the control of the canines. If anyone had emails to send, it was “Sent from my iPhone” or nothing.

Take Your Dog to Work Day Dog at Desk

…but they took their “Take Your Dog to Work Day” duties seriously

By around lunch time, the pups realised that we humans had important work to do. In their infinite kindness, they granted us access to our PCs – provided they could micromanage us.

Dogs in the Office

Some of them even took the liberty of working autonomously. This kind of go-getter approach will take them straight to the C-suite!

In short, we wish that EVERY day was Take Your Dog to Work Day

We say this every year, but we’re already looking forward to the next TYDTW Day. Having said that, we COULD just bring 14 dogs into the office every day. The dogs win, the humans win – what’s not to love?

Bring Your Dog to Work Day 2019

Would you like your pooch to enjoy TYDTW Day every day, but don’t have a dog-friendly workplace? Book them a spot at Doggy Daycare! From Melbourne to Brisbane, from Sydney to Perth, we have A1 Pet Sitters ready to daycare your furry friend. Book now!

Folks, Hug Your Cat Day 2019 (Monday 4 June) is drawing nearer. For us at Mad Paws, that means one thing: the quest for Australia’s most huggable cat must begin. From Perth to Melbourne, Adelaide to Brisbane, crisp autumnal Sydney to lush, sweltering Darwin, Australia is home to huggable cats. They’re adorable, and they’re out there, and we saw it as our duty to find them.

Of course, not every cat enjoys hugs. Much like humans, felines can vary in the ways they like to receive their affection.  Cats that don’t hug are in no way less worthy; they simply bond with their Owners in a different manner. However, with Hug Your Cat Day around the corner, we wanted to celebrate those who do value a good cuddle. With this in mind, we joined forces with Pawssum to reach Cat Owners, Cat Sitters, and kitty fans across Australia.

The request? Submit a photo of yourself hugging your cat.

The prize? $150 in Pet Sitting and vet vouchers, plus bragging rates.

The response? Off. The. Chain.

After receiving so many adorable photos, it was hard to choose a winner. In the end, though, there can be only one. Cat lovers, we’re pleased to announce:

Australia’s most huggable cat is Ollie!

Ollie, Australia's Most Huggable Cat

Meet Ollie, Australia’s Most Huggable Cat

A local of Erskineville, NSW, Ollie lives with his Owners Bexy McFly (pictured above) and Ciro Figaro. His human Bexy is also no stranger to the ways of the kitty – she publishes Pussweek, a noted feline journal of record.

As you can see, Ollie hug game is on point. That’s the face of a cat who’s hugging his human while thinking: “There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. Yep, that’s right – not even eating catnip.”

Our cuddly runner-up: Ryder

Meet Ryder, WA's Most Huggable Cat

Ryder the Cat and his buddy Raiven Clinton earned second place!

In at a close second place is Ryder the Cat, pictured above with his Owner Raiven. Raiven’s mum Natasha sent us the photo, and our hearts melted the moment we saw it. If there is a sweeter duo than these two, we haven’t seen them!

The winner and runner-up cat will receive their prizes on Hug Your Cat Day. In the meantime, kudos to the both of you!

Do you have a cat that loves a good hug? Tell us about them in the comments section!
